Frequently Asked Questions

What is the last date for filing income tax returns in India?
For individuals and entities not subject to audit, the due date for filing the income tax return is 31st July of the assessment year (for the financial year ending 31st March). For entities subject to tax audit under Section 44AB — including businesses with turnover above ₹1 crore and professionals with receipts above ₹50 lakh — the due date is 31st October of the assessment year. These dates are subject to extension by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) and should be verified each year.
Do I need a CA to file my GST returns or can I file myself?
GST returns can technically be filed by the business owner directly on the GST portal. However, professional filing by a qualified accountant significantly reduces the risk of errors in ITC claims, HSN classification, place of supply determination, and reconciliation with GSTR-2B. Errors in self-filed returns often lead to ITC disallowances, demand notices, and penalties that cost far more to resolve than the cost of professional filing. We recommend professional GST compliance support for all businesses with regular purchasing, multiple supplies, or any element of complexity.
What documents do you need to file my income tax return?
The documents required depend on your income sources. For salaried individuals: Form 16, bank statements, investment proofs for deductions (80C, 80D, home loan certificates), and capital gains statements if applicable. For business owners: profit & loss account, balance sheet, bank statements, GST returns, TDS certificates, and loan statements. For all clients: PAN, Aadhaar, and the previous year's ITR acknowledgement for reference. We provide a detailed document checklist specific to your profile at the start of every engagement.
What is a tax audit and when is it applicable?
A tax audit under Section 44AB of the Income Tax Act is a mandatory audit of books of accounts by a Chartered Accountant when a business's total sales, turnover, or gross receipts exceed ₹1 crore (or ₹10 crore if cash transactions are below 5% of total receipts under the extended digital threshold). For professionals, the audit threshold is ₹50 lakh of gross receipts. The tax auditor issues a report in Form 3CA/3CB and Form 3CD, which must be submitted before the due date for return filing.
Can you help us respond to an income tax or GST notice?
Yes. Receiving a tax notice — whether a scrutiny assessment notice, a demand notice, a high-value transaction notice, or a GST show cause notice — requires prompt, accurate, and well-documented responses. We review the notice, analyse the discrepancy or demand, prepare a detailed written response with supporting evidence, and file it within the prescribed timeline. For assessment proceedings, we represent clients before the Assessing Officer or GST authorities as required.
