DIN eKYC Overview – Annual Director & Designated Partner KYC
Everything You Need to Know About DIR-3 KYC / KYC Web — The Annual Identity Verification Requirement for All DIN and DPIN Holders
Every individual holding a Director Identification Number (DIN) or Designated Partner Identification Number (DPIN) — whether they are currently active as a director or designated partner, or hold a DIN without any current appointment — must complete annual eKYC with the MCA. This process, introduced in 2018, requires DIN holders to verify their identity, mobile number, and email address with the MCA each financial year. Failure to complete eKYC by 30 September each year results in the DIN/DPIN being marked "Deactivated — KYC Pending" — rendering it unusable for any MCA filing until it is reactivated.
The DIN eKYC process has two variants: DIR-3 KYC (the full form, filed in the first year of KYC or when details change) and KYC Web (a simplified web-based verification for subsequent years where no details have changed). Understanding which process applies to a particular director is the first step to completing eKYC correctly — filing the wrong variant or missing the deadline can block the director's ability to sign any MCA form.
